FOOTPRINTS OF A BUDDHIST MONK

Hua Chi, a simple monk from China, has achieved something that only few are able to -- he has left a mark in this world, quite literally. The pious man has knelt to pray in the exact same spot for nearly 20 years now. He's performed the ritual so many times that his footprints are deeply ingrained in the wooden floor of his temple, in the monastery town of Tongren, in Qinghai Province.

ANCIENT MARKS | Chris Ranier

"...We are at a crucial crossroads of human history. We are losing traditional cultures with their ancient ways of life and spiritual beliefs at catastrophic rates... With my photography of the First Peoples of our fragile planet, I hope to show spiritual traditions from our past in the present, - and become part of the process in some small way of helping preserve life for future generations. I believe photography plays a crucial role in helping sustain and revitalize cultures on the edge..." - Chris Ranier

'Bodhisattva' Limited Edition Print

I'm very pleased to announce the release of our first print of the year, 'Bodhisattva', which is a Sanskrit term for a human being who is able to achieve nirvana, but delays doing so for the benefit of all sentient beings. This print is adorned with the sacred mantra, 'Om Vajrasattva Hum,' dedicated to Bodhisattva Vajrasattva (the Prince of Purity). It is a powerful mantra for the purification of negative karmic forces and spiritual impurities. The intention of this mantra is to help all sentient beings attain enlightenment or a better reincarnation, but can also be recited prior to undertaking a new pathway on the journey to enlightenment. The mantra is imploring Vajrasattva to be both the means for a pathway and the pathway itself towards enlightenment for all sentient beings.

The Making of 'Kalachakra'

The 'Mantradalas' are an exploration of how art can be used as a tool for meditation, introspection & trance induction, each one adorned with sacred mantras and prayers in hopes of bringing blessings and positive karma to all who view it. The 'Mantradalas' are cosmic diagrams that reminds us of our relation to the infinite and serves as a gateway to a world that extends beyond our material reality. Inspired by the the 'Sacred Science' of the ancient Egyptians, as well as the practice and creation of Tibetan sand mandalas, this series reflects the long forgotten wisdom of our ancestors.

The 'Kalachakra' Prayer Wheel is an interactive piece that was inspired by spinning prayer wheels of Tibet, where each rotation of the wheel is equivalent to reciting the prayer/mantra contained within.

MOJITEN 1 Group Exhibition

Languages and letters around the world are a reflection of regional characteristic and history of people who live there. Artists have been creating letters in the context of their own community, lifestyle and interest in spirituality, and putting out a message by competing for best style sometimes. This kind of puritanical approach by artists has gone beyond the realm of visual communication between the people who share common taste, and sublimed to a piece of genuine art that appeals to many people. New chapter has been generated and reached a new stage of growth in the history of calligraphy and hand lettering which have been developed since ancient times. You will be able to catch a glimpse of the history at MOJITEN 1 and enjoy interpreting the artworks.
